IONOS advertises its Plus plan at $1 a month. That plan renews at $14.
A fourteenfold increase is more than twice the steepest we had calculated before, and it changes what the introductory offer means. The dollar is real. So is the year that follows it.
Is IONOS Good in 2026?
For a first year on a tight budget, the offer is hard to match. A dollar a month buys unlimited websites, unlimited storage, a free domain, wildcard SSL and professional email, backed by a 99.99 percent uptime commitment with service credits.
However, across three years the same plan costs $348.00, which places it eighth of the nine shared plans we have priced. Sources also split sharply on whether the service delivers what the marketing promises. We compare IONOS directly with SiteGround in SiteGround vs IONOS.
The Multiplier
Every host in these reviews raises its price after the introductory term. This one raises it by a factor of fourteen.
Published figures put the Plus plan at $1 during the promotion and $14 afterwards. One source describes the increase as 700 percent on a different plan, another records a renewal of $12, and a UK review gives the Essential plan renewing at £8. We compare IONOS directly with Bluehost, a Newfold Digital brand, in Bluehost vs IONOS.
Those differ because the plans differ, and the pattern does not. The dollar covers twelve months; the twenty-four months after it cost $336 — the full field is here.
For comparison, the next steepest multiplier in these reviews is six, and the gentlest is under two and a half.

Sources Disagree About the Product
This is the second review in a row where we could not reconcile what we read, and here the split is unusually wide.
One benchmarking site describes poor uptime reliability falling short of 99.95 percent, support criticized as unresponsive, and frequent complaints about unauthorised charges, hidden fees and difficulty cancelling.
Several others describe 99.99 percent uptime backed by service credits, real phone support that few budget hosts match, and a personal consultant assigned to every account at no extra cost.
⚠️ We are not choosing between those accounts. Both come from sites that publish their method, and a buyer should read the second set knowing the first exists — we hit the same problem reviewing another host.
Speed
Published measurements span a factor of nine, so we list them rather than averaging.
A UK test recorded 168 milliseconds. Laboratory comparison recorded 181 milliseconds average, placing IONOS just behind Hostinger and Bluehost, and well ahead of the 600 millisecond industry figure it cites.
A detailed monitoring study over several weeks recorded a 479 millisecond baseline, a weekly average of 685 milliseconds in its third week, and a single day at 1,512 milliseconds. That day corresponds to a connection timeout confirmed independently by uptime monitoring, which is the kind of corroboration we rarely get.
An older review recorded 650 to 700 milliseconds.
The picture that emerges is a host that performs well for European and North American visitors and inconsistently under stress.
Infrastructure
This is where IONOS differs from most hosts at its price. We set IONOS against a managed cloud server in Cloudways vs IONOS.
It operates 31 data centers, with European sites in Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Spain running under EU data protection law. A Frankfurt facility opened in 2025 specifically for data sovereignty, certified under ISO 27001 and powered by renewable energy.
IONOS also provides a data processing agreement under Article 28 of the GDPR, which matters for European businesses and is rarely offered at entry price points. We set IONOS against managed WordPress at Kinsta in Kinsta vs IONOS.
Dedicated resources on shared plans is another claim worth noting, though we could not verify what the allocation actually is.

Support
Twenty-four hour phone support, plus a personal consultant assigned to each account.
That consultant model is genuinely unusual and appears in several reviews as the reason to choose IONOS. It also appears in one review as the thing that never materialised.
Nobody publishes controlled measurement of support response times for any host, so this criterion rests on description rather than data throughout our site.
Who Owns It
Here we hit the same wall as in our previous review, and we will say so rather than guess.
The sources we read describe IONOS as a European company with 6.2 million customers, 25 years of operation and 148,000 business clients. None of them states its current ownership structure, and we are not going to infer one.
What is clear is the European posture: EU data centers, GDPR agreements and a data sovereignty position that American hosts in these reviews do not offer.

What We Don’t Love
The renewal multiplier of fourteen, against a norm between two and a half and four.
The split in published accounts, particularly on billing and cancellation, which we could not resolve.
A proprietary control panel rather than cPanel, and one email account bundled per plan. The records that make domain mail deliverable are covered in setting up email on your domain.
How We Research
Pricing comes from published reviews that state the figures they read and when. Performance figures are attributed to named tests, listed individually rather than averaged across a range spanning 168 to 1,512 milliseconds. Where sources contradict each other on service quality we print both, and where we could not confirm something, including ownership structure, we say so.
We run no tests of any kind. Our five criteria are on our About page.
Frequently Asked Questions
The Plus plan advertises at $1 a month and renews at $14, a fourteenfold increase. Published figures for other plans include a $12 renewal and £8 on the UK Essential plan. Across three years the Plus plan comes to $348.00.
It depends which test you read. A UK measurement recorded 168 milliseconds and a laboratory comparison 181. A detailed multi-week study recorded a 479 millisecond baseline with one day reaching 1,512 milliseconds during a confirmed connection timeout.
The company commits to 99.99 percent with service credits. One benchmarking site disputes this, describing reliability that falls short of 99.95 percent. We print both because the gap is large enough to matter.
That is its strongest case. It runs data centers in Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Spain under EU data protection law, and provides a data processing agreement under Article 28 of the GDPR, which few hosts at this price offer.
No. It runs a proprietary control panel, which several reviews describe as having a steeper learning curve than cPanel or the custom panels used by other hosts. Plans also bundle one email account rather than several.
IONOS
Summary
A $1 first year attached to a $14 renewal, and a proprietary control panel.
The Verdict
IONOS earns 3.1, and the score is dragged down by one number rather than by the product.
Choose it if you want the cheapest possible first year, your visitors are European, and data sovereignty matters to your business.
Skip it if you intend to stay past the first term without moving, because the second year costs fourteen times the first.
