Namecheap renews its entry shared plan at $4.88 a month. Against the seven other hosts we have priced, that is the lowest renewal figure, and roughly half what the next cheapest charges. We compare Namecheap directly with SiteGround in SiteGround vs Namecheap.
It also sells a managed WordPress product that meters plans by monthly visitors — the same model we described as unusual when reviewing a host charging nearly four times as much for half the visitor allowance.
Is Namecheap Good for Hosting in 2026?
For a small site on a budget, yes. The renewal is genuinely low, cPanel comes included, and domain privacy runs free rather than as an annual charge. Moving a domain to a registrar is covered in how to transfer a domain.
However, there is no phone support at any tier, response times sit mid-field, and the managed WordPress platform omits both email and cPanel.
The Renewal Is the Story
In practice, shared hosting starts at $1.98 a month and renews at $4.88. Stellar Plus runs $2.98 to $6.88, and Stellar Business $4.98 to $9.88. For a blog, where the renewal is paid for years, see the best hosting for bloggers.
That entry renewal is less than half what most hosts in these reviews charge, and the multiplier of 2.46 is among the gentler ones we have calculated — the full field is here.
The three-year total depends on the term. On an annual cycle it comes to $140.88; on the two-year term the introductory rate covers more of the window and the total falls to $106.08.
⚠️ Sources describe the introductory term differently, so confirm the length before assuming which figure applies to you.

Metered by Visitors, Again
EasyWP is Namecheap’s managed WordPress platform, launched in 2018 and rebuilt on container infrastructure in 2021. Each site runs in its own container on NVMe storage with a Cloudflare-powered content network included.
Its plans are metered by monthly visits: 50,000 on Starter, 200,000 on Turbo, 500,000 on Supersonic.
⚠️ When we reviewed WP Engine we called visitor metering a different question from what shared and cloud hosts ask. That remains true, but the model is less unusual than it appeared. EasyWP Starter allows twice the visits of WP Engine’s entry plan and renews at $9.88 against $35.00.
That comparison is not like for like. WP Engine ranked first for response time among 34 hosts in the benchmark we cite throughout, and EasyWP does not appear in it. Still, for a site under fifty thousand visits a month the price difference is difficult to argue with.
A Free Trial Instead of a Refund
Besides, EasyWP includes a 30-day free trial with no credit card required.
Every other host in these reviews sells you the plan and refunds it afterwards if you ask within the window. This one lets you use it first.
For anyone who has ever forgotten to cancel inside a refund period, that difference is worth more than it sounds — refund windows vary more than the category admits.

Speed
Every figure here comes from a named source, and they disagree enough to be worth listing individually.
One 2026 test of a WordPress site on shared hosting recorded 232 milliseconds response time with a 526 millisecond Largest Contentful Paint. A separate test of EasyWP Starter recorded 380 milliseconds, dropping to 220 on the Turbo tier.
A benchmark based on real user sessions places Namecheap in the mid-tier category, respectable for its price class rather than among the fastest. Another source puts average load times between 600 and 800 milliseconds. We compare Namecheap directly with Bluehost, a Newfold Digital brand, in Bluehost vs Namecheap.
Shared hosting performance dips during load spikes, which is normal for the segment and worth knowing if the site does more than serve pages.
Uptime
Adequate, and below what the stronger hosts in these reviews record.
For instance, one 30-day monitoring window recorded 99.92 percent with three brief outages totalling 35 minutes. The company guarantees 99.9 percent on shared plans and 99.99 percent on the top EasyWP tier.
Ninety-nine point nine percent allows almost nine hours of downtime a year. That is a guarantee rather than a measurement, and it sits below what several competitors commit to.
Support
Chat and tickets, around the clock. No telephone line at any tier.
That places Namecheap alongside the cloud hosts rather than the shared ones, most of which answer the phone. For a host aimed at first-time buyers, it is a real gap.
Who Owns It
Namecheap is a domain registrar first and a hosting company second, which shapes what it does well.
Domain privacy comes free rather than as an annual charge, DNS management is unusually good, and the company has built a reputation on privacy positions rather than on hosting performance. Keeping the domain at a registrar makes pointing a domain to a new host a DNS change rather than a transfer.
⚠️ We could not confirm current ownership structure from the sources we read, so we are not stating it. What is clear from those sources is that no hosting group appears above it — unlike several brands we have traced to a shared parent.

What We Don’t Love
No phone support, which separates it from most shared hosts at this price.
Uptime commitments sit below competitors, at 99.9 percent on the plans most people buy.
EasyWP omits email hosting and cPanel, so a small business needs a second provider for mail.
How We Research
Pricing comes from published reviews that state the figures they read and when. Performance figures are attributed to named tests with their conditions, and we list them individually rather than averaging a range that spans 232 to 800 milliseconds. Where we could not confirm something, including ownership structure, we say so.
We run no tests of any kind. Our five criteria are on our About page.
