Hostinger vs WP Engine (2026): Ten Times the Price, Five Times the Speed

WP Engine costs $1,164.00 across three years against $107.64. That is 10.8 times more.

Meanwhile, it records 65 milliseconds globally against 495 on the Hostinger plan priced here. That is 7.6 times faster. Both figures come from the same benchmarking project, which makes this one of the few comparisons here where the trade is genuinely quantified on both sides.

The Comparison Almost Everyone Gets Wrong

⚠️ Before the trade, a warning about the numbers themselves.

That project ranks WP Engine first of 34 hosts for response time, quoting 365 milliseconds across 22 United States locations and 65 milliseconds across 40 locations globally.

In fact, Hostinger appears in that ranking twice. Business places fifth at 223 milliseconds globally. Premium places twenty-eighth at 495. The difference between them is a content network, which Premium omits.

Premium is the plan priced in this comparison. So the honest global comparison is 65 milliseconds against 495, a gap of 7.6 times. Against Business it would be 3.4 times, and against a plan costing more.

The Short Answer

Hostinger for almost every site that is not a business. It costs a tenth as much, includes email, and ranks fifth of 34 rather than nowhere.

WP Engine when page speed is revenue and your visitors are spread across continents. Nothing else in these reviews delivers 65 milliseconds globally.

What Ten Times Buys

Across three years the gap is $1,056.36. Across six it is $2,016.72, and the ratio narrows to 6.0 because Hostinger’s own renewal arrives at month 49. The same WP Engine figures set against Newfold Digital’s Bluehost are in our Bluehost and WP Engine comparison.

In practice, what that money buys is a genuinely different product. Cloudflare Enterprise on every plan, application performance monitoring built in, staging, and a network that delivers in tens of milliseconds rather than hundreds.

⚠️ What it does not buy is a resource ceiling you can ignore. WP Engine meters plans by monthly visits, 25,000 on its entry tier, and traffic above the allowance triggers overage charges. Hostinger has no visit ceiling at all — though its published limits are their own problem.

So the premium buys delivery and costs you a billing variable that shared hosting does not have.

Where WP Engine Is Not Ahead

Two places, and both are worth knowing before paying ten times more.

The first is availability. A study of fourteen managed hosts placed WP Engine tenth on uptime at 99.976 percent, while ranking it first on response time in the same window. Hostinger records 99.93 to 100 percent across seven projects. Fast and merely average on uptime is a coherent profile, and it is what the data shows. The same WP Engine figures against a Cloudways server are in our Cloudways and WP Engine comparison.

The second is geography. That same project recorded WP Engine at 481 milliseconds in São Paulo and 754 in Santiago. Hostinger’s 351 millisecond global average is not beaten there.

Email, and Who Has It

First, Hostinger includes email hosting. WP Engine does not sell it at any price. The same WP Engine figures against Kinsta are in our Kinsta and WP Engine comparison.

For a small business that means a second provider and a second bill on top of a plan already costing ten times more. For an agency with email at Google Workspace already, it means nothing.

That single line moves more buying decisions than any speed figure on this page.

The Litigation

WP Engine has been in federal litigation with Automattic since October 2024, and Automattic blocked its access to WordPress.org resources during the dispute, interrupting plugin updates for customers.

⚠️ We take no position on the merits. As of mid-2026 the case remains active and in discovery.

It belongs in a price comparison because it once affected customers directly, which is more than can be said for most corporate disputes.

When to Choose WP Engine Instead

Your visitors are spread globally and a tenth of a second changes conversion. That is the entire case, and it is a real one.

You run client sites and the included monitoring replaces tools you already pay for. Add those to the Hostinger column before comparing sticker prices.

Your traffic is predictable enough that a visit ceiling is a planning number rather than a surprise.

How We Research

Every figure comes from the two underlying reviews, where each is attributed to a named project with its window and the geography it covers. That last part matters here more than usual, because two figures from the same project measure different things. We run no tests of our own.

Our criteria are on our About page. The long versions are in our Hostinger review and our WP Engine review.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is cheaper, Hostinger or WP Engine?

Hostinger, by $1,056.36 over three years. It costs $107.64 against $1,164.00, a ratio of 10.8 to one. Over six years the gap widens to $2,016.72 while the ratio narrows to 6.0.

Which is faster?

WP Engine, and by more than we first reported. It records 65 milliseconds globally against 495 on Hostinger Premium, the plan priced here, both from the same benchmark. Hostinger Business reaches 223 milliseconds, but costs more.

Does WP Engine include email?

No, and it does not sell it at any price. Email requires a separate provider and a separate bill. Hostinger includes email hosting in the plan price along with WHOIS privacy.

What are WP Engine’s visit limits?

The entry plan allows 25,000 monthly visits, and traffic above that triggers overage handling rather than throttling. Hostinger imposes no visit ceiling, though its published resource limits are not stated anywhere either.

Is WP Engine more reliable?

Not by the figures we found. One study of fourteen managed hosts placed it tenth on uptime at 99.976 percent while ranking it first on response time. Hostinger records 99.93 to 100 percent across seven testing projects.

The Verdict

Hostinger, 4.2 against 4.1, and the scores understate how different these two are.

Ten times the price is not a premium, it is a different category of purchase. For a blog, a portfolio or a brochure site, the cheaper host ranks fifth of 34 and costs a tenth as much.

Choose WP Engine when the 65 millisecond figure will show up in your revenue. Otherwise it is a number you have paid for and will not notice.
