Kinsta vs IONOS (2026): Opposite Gaps in the Record

Kinsta vs IONOS is the sharpest contrast under load in this series, and the two hosts have opposite gaps in their records. Kinsta finished the benchmark load test at 40 ms with every request answered, and the IONOS entry plan failed it with a 65.4% error rate. IONOS, though, has a named uptime figure of 99.99%, and our table holds none for Kinsta. On price it is $1,260.00 across 36 months against $348.00. For the same host against Hostinger, see Hostinger vs IONOS.

Kinsta vs IONOS: The Short Answer

Kinsta, at 4.1 against 3.1 in our reviews. A plan that cannot serve a hundred concurrent visitors is the wrong home for anything that earns, and Kinsta includes monitoring, daily backups and an edge network. IONOS suits a year-long trial: a dollar a month for twelve months, a phone line and a named consultant per account.

Each Host Has One Named Strength

We run no tests, so these figures belong to Hostingstep. Its load test ramps to 100 concurrent visitors over 60 seconds. Kinsta finished at 40 ms with every request answered and scores 8.8 of 10 on that project’s WordPress benchmark. The IONOS entry plan failed the same test with a 65.4% error rate, which the tester reads as an inability to serve concurrent traffic.

Uptime reverses the direction of the evidence. IONOS records 99.99% in the same project, a strong figure, and our table holds no uptime percentage for Kinsta from a named project at all. So one host is measured on how it behaves in a crowd, and the other on whether it stays online.

⚠️ Those two measure different risks. Uptime tells you the site answers; the load test tells you it answers when many people arrive together. A plan can be online all year and still fail the hour your newsletter goes out. Our guide to reading an uptime report explains why we keep them apart.

Opposite gaps in the two records: load test against uptime

The Price, and the Dollar Year

IONOS Plus bills $1.00 a month for twelve months and then $14.00, which is 14.0× over 12 months. Three years come to $348.00. Kinsta charges $35.00 from the first month with no promotional term, which is $1,260.00.

From month 13 the gap is two and a half times rather than thirty-five, so the interesting question is what happens after the trial year. Our page on hosting renewal prices records both rates, and a step of 14.0× over 12 months sits beside the rest of the field.

⚠️ IONOS describes the dollar two ways. Its cheap-hosting page shows $1.00 on a one-year term, and another page describes a dollar first month. We price the one-year reading, the friendlier of the two. Kinsta’s ceiling is different: Starter covers one site and 25,000 monthly visits.

What Kinsta Includes for the Difference

A container per site. Another customer’s traffic cannot reach yours, which matters more on a host whose entry plan failed a concurrency test.

Performance monitoring in the plan. The tool that finds a slow plugin query rather than leaving you to guess.

An edge network and daily backups. Cloudflare Enterprise in front of every site, with daily copies included rather than sold.

Staging tools. Useful for a site that changes, as our guide to setting up a staging site explains.

What IONOS Offers Instead

The first year, clearly: a dollar a month is the cheapest honest way to test an idea. IONOS also answers the phone and assigns a named consultant to each account, which few hosts match in writing, though one review disputes how reachable that consultant is.

IONOS Plus bundles one email account per plan. Kinsta includes none, so a business on Kinsta needs a separate provider. Our guide to setting up email on your domain covers the records either way.

Which Site Belongs Where

A store, a membership site or anything with logins. Kinsta, because those pages are uncached and the IONOS entry plan failed exactly that test. Our list of hosting for ecommerce covers the case.

An idea to test for a year. IONOS, for the dollar rate and a short term.

A brochure site with steady, modest traffic. IONOS can serve it, because cached pages rarely test the limit the benchmark found.

An agency handing sites to clients. Kinsta, for isolation and monitoring, as our list of hosting for agencies explains.

A Changing Year at IONOS

In September 2026, United Internet announced restructuring that cuts about 800 roles across IONOS and 1&1. That does not change what the terms promise, and it is worth knowing if the named consultant is the reason you are buying.

IONOS Group SE has been listed in Frankfurt since February 2023, with United Internet holding about 64%, so its accounts are public. Kinsta’s ownership is not established in the sources we read, which is a gap rather than an implication.

What the Load Failure Means in Practice

A plan that drops two requests in three at a hundred visitors will look perfectly fine on a quiet Tuesday. The failure shows up when a post is shared, a newsletter lands or a product goes on sale, which are the moments a site exists for.

So the question is not how the site behaves on a quiet day. It is whether it survives its best hour. Our roundup of hosting for high traffic ranks hosts by that test, and our guide to testing your site speed properly covers running it yourself, with the host’s permission.

Year One as a Trial

The honest way to use the dollar year is as a trial: build the site, see whether the idea works, and decide before month 13. If the project has found traffic by then, it is exactly the kind of site the load result says to move.

That makes month 12 a decision point worth diarizing. A site that has not found traffic may be fine where it is, or ready to close, and our guide to choosing between annual and three-year terms covers the same logic for longer commitments.

Support, Panels and Leaving

IONOS answers the phone; Kinsta answers chat and tickets and has no telephone line at any tier. Neither publishes a measured response time, and no controlled test of hosting support exists in the sources we found.

Both run their own panels rather than cPanel, so leaving either means moving the site rather than the account. Our guide to migrating web hosting covers the steps, and the domain can stay at its registrar in both directions.

Where Each One Is Weakest

IONOS is weakest under load and after the trial. A 65.4% error rate on the entry plan is a real limit, its renewal steps by 14.0× over 12 months, and it bundles a single mailbox.

Kinsta is weakest on price, scope and the missing uptime figure. It costs 3.6 times the IONOS total over 36 months, hosts WordPress only, includes no email, has no phone line, and no named project publishes its uptime. Our Kinsta review prices the tiers.

How We Research

We run no tests. Load, uptime and hardware figures come from Hostingstep’s 2026 benchmarks with their windows, and where our table holds no figure, as with Kinsta’s uptime, we leave the cell empty. Prices come from the providers’ own pages, read on 20 September 2026, and we price the friendlier of IONOS’s two readings of the dollar.

Ownership comes from IONOS Group’s investor pages and reporting on the September restructuring. The criteria behind our scores are on our about page, and our comparison of Cloudways against IONOS sets the same host beside a cloud server.

Kinsta vs IONOS FAQ

Which is cheaper, Kinsta or IONOS?

IONOS: $348.00 across 36 months against $1,260.00 at Kinsta. Its first year costs $1.00 a month, and from month 13 it charges $14.00 against Kinsta’s flat $35.00.

Why does the IONOS load test matter?

Because it measures concurrent visitors. The IONOS entry plan failed the 2026 test with a 65.4% error rate, while Kinsta answered every request at 40 ms. A newsletter or a shared post creates exactly that kind of load.

Which one is more reliable?

IONOS has the named uptime figure, 99.99%, and our table holds none for Kinsta. Uptime and load measure different risks: a plan can be online all year and still fail the hour many visitors arrive together.

Does either include email?

IONOS Plus bundles one email account per plan. Kinsta includes none, so a business needs a separate provider and another monthly bill.

Is the IONOS dollar price for a month or a year?

Its cheap-hosting page shows $1.00 a month on a one-year term, and another IONOS page describes a dollar first month. We price the one-year reading, so check the cart before paying.

The Verdict

Kinsta takes this, at 4.1 against 3.1, because the load test is the measurement that matters for the pages a business depends on, and the IONOS entry plan did not pass it. Monitoring, daily backups and an edge network come with the price.

IONOS is a reasonable year-long trial with a phone line and one mailbox, as long as you read the dollar as a discount rather than a lasting price and the site stays modest. Put month 12 in the calendar and decide then. Our page on what web hosting costs runs both totals further.
