Joomla asks less of a host than Drupal or Magento. Extensions install from its administrator interface rather than from a shell, its memory needs are modest, and it ships with caching you switch on. So this page is not about whether SiteGround can run it. It is about two figures that decide whether you should buy it. A load test finished at 170 ms with a 0% error rate, and a renewal that changes with the term you signed.
Is SiteGround Right for Joomla? The Short Answer
Yes for a brochure, association or small publication site, on the 24-month term, with GrowBig if you want staging. Unlike Drupal, Joomla needs no shell, so nothing has to be confirmed before buying. Watch the 632 ms global response, the 44 outages recorded across 2025, and the renewal, which runs $14.99, $17.99 or $24.99 depending on the term.
Why Joomla Is the Simple Case
No Composer, no shell. Packages install and update through the administrator, which our page on SiteGround for Drupal contrasts with the platform where a shell decides everything.
Modest memory. Megabytes rather than the gigabytes a Magento compile wants.
Caching in the box, switched off. Joomla’s conservative page and module caching sits in global configuration, unset in many installs. Turn it on, then measure, as our guide to configuring caching covers.
Any plan that runs WordPress runs it. Which makes the hosting decision about price, support and measurements rather than requirements.

What the Load Result Buys a Joomla Site
Two things. The administrator interface, which is never cached, and any extension that builds pages per visitor: a forum component, a shop, a booking system, a members area.
SiteGround answered a hundred concurrent visitors at 170 ms without dropping a request, in the October 2025 to May 2026 window. For a site whose extensions create uncached pages, that is the figure that matters, and it is a good one.
⚠️ Read the WordPress benchmark score of 8.4 of 10 as a statement about the platform underneath rather than about Joomla. The load result is the transferable part.
The Three Things to Watch
632 ms globally, 22nd of 34 hosts. Joomla’s cached pages are exactly what a network copies well, so add one if readers are spread out. Our guide to setting up a CDN covers the rules.
Forty-four outages across 2025. Total downtime was 193 minutes, which is small, and the count is what to plan around, as our guide to reading an uptime report explains.
The renewal by term. $14.99 on 24 months, $17.99 on 12 and $24.99 month to month. The table above turns the two main paths into three-year totals of $251.64 and $467.64. Our page on SiteGround for WordPress works through that arithmetic.

Extensions Decide the Cost, Not Joomla
A brochure site with five extensions is light, and almost any plan carries it. The same site with a forum, a shop and a booking component is a different application.
Count the extensions that build pages per visitor before judging a plan. A forum component puts you in the case our list of hosting for forums covers. A shop puts you in our list of hosting for ecommerce.
StartUp or GrowBig
StartUp runs a Joomla site. GrowBig adds staging, which matters because Joomla updates core and extensions from the same screen, and a failed update on a live site is a bad afternoon.
Price GrowBig at its $29.99 renewal rather than its $4.99 intro rate, and remember that the term changes the renewal again. Our guide to choosing between annual and three-year terms covers the general trade.
If You Would Rather Have cPanel
Joomla documentation and community tutorials often assume cPanel, and a host with its own panel means translating instructions as you go. That is a friction rather than a fault, but it is real for a first-time owner.
InterServer runs standard cPanel at $2.50 a month with the price locked for the life of the account, and answers phone, chat and tickets around the clock. Its measured record is thinner: no named load result, and an uptime figure of 99.98% that comes from one reviewer monitoring six sites. Our InterServer review explains the lock.
What Joomla Owners Usually Get Wrong
Two habits cost more than any hosting choice. Leaving the cache off, which makes a healthy plan feel slow, and installing extensions to solve problems the core already handles, which adds database work per page.
Neither is visible on a pricing page. Both show up in the administrator, which is why the load result matters here more than the response time does.
Which Joomla Sites Fit
An association or club site. Cached pages for members and visitors, a phone line for the person who owns the account.
A small publication. The uncached administrator work is covered by the load result.
A brochure site with a booking component. Workable, because that component is exactly what the load test approximates.
A site kept for years. Provided you buy the 24-month term and write down the renewal date.
The First Month
Turn on Joomla’s cache, then measure. Caching sits off in many fresh installs, which is worth ruling out before blaming the plan.
Add a network if readers are abroad. 632 ms is the starting point without one.
Restore a backup once. Daily copies are included, and an untested copy is a hypothesis, as our guide to setting up automatic backups explains.
Rehearse one update on staging. If you took GrowBig, this is what you paid for, and our guide to setting up a staging site covers the workflow.

Moving a Joomla Site In
Joomla travels as files, a database and one configuration file, which makes it one of the easier platforms to relocate. The usual snag is a hard-coded path inside configuration.php after the move.
Do it on a copy first, keep the old host running for a week, and leave the domain at its registrar so the switch is a DNS change. Our guide to migrating web hosting covers the order that keeps the site online.
How We Research
We run no tests. The load result and WordPress benchmark come from Hostingstep’s October 2025 to May 2026 window. The uptime and outage count come from its full-year 2025 record, and the global response ranking from its 2026 benchmarks.
Joomla’s requirements come from its own documentation for current releases, and individual extensions are outside what we review. Prices, terms and support channels come from SiteGround’s own pages and from reviews published this year, read on 20 September 2026. The criteria behind our scores are on our about page, and the full workings are in our SiteGround review.
SiteGround for Joomla FAQ
Yes, and it is the simplest of the platforms we cover here. Joomla installs extensions from its administrator rather than from a shell, and any plan that runs WordPress runs it.
Yes, for two parts of the site: the administrator interface, which is never cached, and extensions that build pages per visitor. SiteGround answered a hundred concurrent visitors at 170 ms without dropping one.
GrowBig if you want staging, because Joomla updates core and extensions from the same screen. Price it at its $29.99 renewal rather than its $4.99 intro rate.
Global response time: 632 ms, 22nd of 34 hosts. Joomla’s cached pages copy well to a content network, so add one if your readers are spread across countries.
It is a friction rather than a fault: the same jobs live in different places. If you would rather follow instructions literally, InterServer runs standard cPanel at $2.50 a month with the price locked.
The Verdict
Joomla removes the requirements question, which leaves price and evidence. On evidence SiteGround does well. A clean load result covers the administrator and any uncached extension, daily backups are included, and it publishes a phone line that several hosts we price do not.
On price it needs care. Buy the 24-month term, and treat GrowBig as a $29.99 plan rather than a $4.99 one. Put a network in front of the cached pages if your readers are not local. Our page on what web hosting costs prices the alternatives across three years.
